In supporting the Hans Heysen Heritage Appeal, you may wish to apply your gift to a particular artwork, artefact, antique-furniture piece, the rare book collection or another item that renders The Cedars special and unique. For example, the Watteau Doulton (England) c1883 purchased by Hans Heysen from a second-hand dealer in Port Adelaide in early 1920 and transported back to The Cedars on the back of his push-bike. Or perhaps, the Boudoir Grand Piano by G. Hahmann Berlin played to accompany Dame Nellie Melba in private recitals for the Heysen Family on her visits to The Cedars. Or indeed, even the Hewn Pine Kitchen Table that in 1923 served as an operating table when Heysen’s 16-year-old daughter Lillian suffered a lung abscess.
Items featured in this catalogue are a snapshot of all that can be found at The Cedars. A more comprehensive list is available on request.
